Telford bids for Chinese business

A delegation from China will take part in a trade visit to Telford tomorrow to discuss business opportunities in the area.

Telford MP Lucy Allan and the mayor Councillor Raj Mehta will meet the delegation of of businessmen and government officials to showcase the area as an excellent place for investment.

They will be joined by representatives from local companies, with a particular focus on the automotive industry.

The private event will start at 9.30am at the Business Innovation Hub at the University Campus in Telford.

The Chinese delegation will include Yang Jukang, deputy director of The Bureau of Commerce of Anhui Province, and Chen Jie of the Wuhu Yongyu Autocar Industrial Corp.

The event will also feature a visit to the University Engineering Division led by Stuart Brown and a presentation by Martyn Mangan of Enterprise Telford.

It is not the first time a Chinese delegation of businessmen has visited the region. Bridgnorth-based high-tech castings specialist Grainger & Worrall has worked with Norinco to make a specialist part to go into a new commercial vehicle. Meanwhile, Telford-based manufacturer Filtermist last year launched a business in China in a bid to accelerate sales in the region.
