Footballing legend Ian Wright on the ball for Telford learning conference

A learning conference run by a Shropshire academy trust is set to welcome former England striker Ian Wright and Educating Yorkshire's Matthew Burton.

The Alliance of Leading Learning, part of the Marches Academy Trust will host its Professional Learning Conference on February 26 at the Telford International Centre.

The event will be organised in partnership with three local Teaching School Alliances, Severn, Salop and North Shropshire. It is set to be the biggest and best yet, with a new venue confirmed.

The inspiration for the conference came from the Chartered College of Teaching’s journal "IMPACT” covering new cutting-edge research on Neuroscience.

For the 2019 conference, the trust has secured the main lead in the UK for Neuroscience and education – Paul Howard Jones.

Former Crystal Palace, Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright headlines the event.

Wright is known in the educational world from a video where he sees his former teacher for the first time in a number of years and is overcome with emotion from one of his first male role models in life, and a man who Wright credited with directing him towards a successful career in football.

Writer, broadcaster and former barrister Afua Hirsch will host a keynote session and a workshop and an afternoon workshop facilitators will include Sir Mark Grundy, a personalised learning specialist who was knighted for his work at George Salter High School in West Bromwich and his work in ICT.

Another key speaker will be the star of Educating Yorkshire, headteacher Matthew Burton.

The conference is aimed at all educational facilitators, including teachers, senior leaders, teaching assistants and anyone who aims to make a difference to the life of a child.

Mrs Sarah Longville, CEO of the Marches Academy Trust, said: "We could not be more excited for this academic years’ Professional Learning Conference. The 2018 conference proved to be a hugely."
