Charity racketball tournament raises £1,100 for cancer charity

A total of £1,100 was raised through a charity racketball tournament and raffle organised by a cancer survivor.

Engineer Les Bywater, 69, said he wanted to give something back to those that had helped him after he went into remission.

He held the 20-person tournament at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on April 6.

More than £808 was raised on the day, with the total continuing to rise by nearly £300.

Mr Bywater, who lives in Horsehay, Telford, handed over the money last week.

A spokeswoman for Lingen Davies said: "Well done to Les and Helen Bywater for organising a charity racketball tournament at their local club in Lilleshall.

"They raised a fantastic £1,100 from participation contributions and a raffle, with some very generous prizes.

"This will help us towards raising our final £68,000, to get to £1.25 million by June 2019."
