Coronavirus - message from Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council

Without doubt, the coronavirus has created the most challenging and difficult time for all of us. Looking out for each other and being kind to one another has never been more necessary.

Seeing how communities have already come together is heartening, but the need to reduce contact with each other will make this even more difficult.

Key to this, is for everyone to do as we have been told by Government. Stay at home to protect our NHS and stay safe. If you are outdoors, you must be at least two metres from the next person. Imagine you are holding out a broomstick – that is how far you must be from anyone else at the very least.

By doing this, you will help stop the spread of the disease and you will help our heroic NHS staff help deal with those people who need hospitalisation.

Thank you to our amazing staff and partners who are pulling out all the stops to help everyone in our borough. Just one example of their great work was the start of the delivery of free school meals to more than 5,500 eligible children. There is much more for us to do and I will be writing to every household in the borough to update you on what we are doing as a council, what support there is being offered to help you and how you can access it.

It’s inevitable that many of us will need additional help and support over the coming weeks. So while there is extraordinary community spirit, as your local council we already have running our new community support line. This service is for those people who may not have family, friends or neighbours who are able to help them.

The phone number to call is 01952 382030, lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 1pm until further notice. You can also register for this support at any time online at If you are concerned about a neighbour or friend who might need our support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Over the next few days, weeks and months, things will get more difficult before they get better.

Together, we can take great steps in slowing down the spread of this virus and help our NHS staff deal with those people who need hospitalisation.
