Virtual celebrations of volunteers is an example of good practice, says LGA

The Local Government Association (LGA) has chosen Telford & Wrekin Council’s virtual celebration of National Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) as an example of good practice for other councils to learn from.

The LGA is a national body made up of 339 English and 22 Welsh councils. Its aim is to support, promote and improve local councils and lobby Government about issues that matter to local councils so that they can deliver local solutions to national problems.

The association gets tons of case study submissions, so "It’s really nice to know that our celebration to raise awareness of our amazing volunteers stood out and is being shared with other local councils so that they can look to do the same in their areas”, says council leader Shaun Davies.

"Volunteers, no matter where they are or what they do, make a difference. We are lucky to have hundreds of local volunteers who make a difference in their communities. National Volunteers’ Week may be over for another year, but volunteering goes on – and so do our thanks for all that they continue to do”, he added.

The Council’s case study is shared on the LGA’s website under the ‘Supporting Vulnerable Residents’ category here.
