Women taken to hospital after M54 bridge incident

Two women were taken to hospital after concerns were raised for their safety near the M54.

Emergency services crews were called to a bridge over the motorway near Junction 6 shortly before 7.30am this morning.

Two ambulances and at least three police cars were sent to the incident on the A5223, Lawley Drive, near Wrekin Retail Park.

It is reported that concerns were raised for the safety of a woman in her late teens and a woman in her early 20s.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews arrived to find two women who were fully conscious and breathing but, following assessment, required medical attention.

"They were given treatment on scene before they were taken to Princess Royal Hospital.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended along with police."

A spokesman from West Mercia Police added: "Police were called to an area near Junction 6 of the M54 and Wrekin Retail Park after concerns for the safety of a woman in her late teens and a woman in her early 20s were raised.
